My Buddy Scot finally got slicks on his 2332cc 67 beetle street car.  This was shot at the race at Indianapolis Raceway Park last month.

I once walked around the back of a drag race Beetle and tripped over the hot stinger exhaust, putting a nice bruise/burn on my shin.  Somehow I think this would be worse...

Goin Racin

Took the '67 VW to the track last week. Snapped this as I was loading up my tools and spares for the drive out to the track.

'67 Cal-Look VW

Since we were talking about black VW Beetles, let me share mine. This is a car that I bought way back in '93 and spent about 5 years rebuilding into a Cal-Look car. Originally the 2276cc engine had a pair of Weber IDA carb's, but I began to get restless and in the mid 2000's I converted it over to turbo power. Best E.T. is a 10.84 @ 127mph.
Since then, all desire to race the car has gone away. Too many parts broken and too much time invested. Waaaay too much power for a street car! The car is mothballed right now - waiting to be converted back to the original IDA Webers and a more streetable tune.

VW Beetle vs. 996 GT3RS

My friend Steve aka "Kenny Rogers" putting a hurt on a GT3RS (actually, it looks like a 996 w' GT3 stripes, but nonetheless...)with his early Beetle.  All motor - no spray or turbo.

Stout '67 Beetle

Rich Dickson's old '67 sedan. Nice car...clean paint, nothing gaudy...and carrying a big stick. That's 11.0's naturally aspirated!
 

Silly Fast!

My Buddies Kris and Jason at VW Paradise ran thier first SEVEN second pass in their turbocharged VW sedan last week.  7.99 @ 177mph.  More impressive is that the sixty foot time was a full tenth slower than normal (track was not hooking-you can see the soft launch) and they were 6 mph off thier best of 183. No doubt that there is a lot more to be had.
And yes, that is an aircooled flat-four VW motor in there.


So, that begs the question, "how much horsepower does it take to do that?"  How about 1025hp...to the wheels!

Kubelwagen

Not too often that you see one of these German military Kubelwagens. Last week I visited Doc Von Kubel Werks restorations in Miamisburg Ohio and got to see four Kubel's in various states of restoration plus a Schwimmwagen, a German half-track and a Mercedes staff-car. When I return, I hope to get a ride.

In the meantime check out this '42 Kubel that served in the German army in Norway. It spent most of its life in Norway but eventually ended up in the U.S. where it has been for the last twenty years or so.

Truly one of a kind - a Split Window VW Rat-Rod Beetle mounted on a custom chassis. The "KDF Mangler" uses a race prepped Corvair motor for motivation. Look for it in an upcoming issue of Ultra VW Magazine.
